Selective grazing behavior of Coopworth sheep in New Zealand

چکیده
This study focused on confirming the grazing selectivity of sheep, more and less selective, in pasture New Zealand, under two different phenological stages forage. Two experiments were conducted: 1) Comparison selective non-selective sheep irrigated with perennial ryegrass white clover. 2) A comparison was performed a high rate senescence composed ryegrass, barley barnyard grass. The botanical composition forage studied using point analysis method. canopy height mass measured disk meter. There no significant difference between treatments variables analyzed. In first experiment there lower clover ratio increased litter for analysis. With regards to height, decrease grazed pasture, as well mass. second grass ratio, decreased proportion increased. Despite differences morphological aspects showed similar behavior.

Soil Changes Associated with Cessation of Sheep Grazing in the Canterbury High Country, New Zealand
Soil degradation has been implicated as a cause of the poor vegetation condition over much of the unimproved tussock grassland in the South Island high country and as a threat to the sustainability of extensive pastoralism (Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, 1991; South Island High Country Review Working Party, 1994). A key requirement for assessment of sustainability is an ability...
متن کاملSheep - Meat RATES OF GENETIC GAIN IN NEW ZEALAND SHEEP
Rates of genetic gain in New Zealand sheep doubled in 140 Dual Purpose flocks, from 30 to 60 cents/yr, and 62 Terminal Sire flocks, from 35 to 60 cents/yr, after establishment of the Sheep Improvement Ltd (SIL) genetic evaluation system in 1999. Further incremental gains of a similar magnitude led to triple the rates of gain pre-SIL after establishment of the Meat & Wool New Zealand Central Pro...
متن کاملMicrozooplankton grazing of phytoplankton in Manukau Harbour, New Zealand
Grazing by microzooplankton on phytoplankton in Manukau Harbour was measured by size-fractionated dilution experiments at monthly intervals from October 1994 to October 1995. Grazing rates were always highest on the < 5 urn size fraction, the smallest size fraction measured. These rates ranged from 0.3 to 1.3 d" and were highest in November and March; values did not appear to vary with grazer a...
متن کاملA Review: Comparison between Grazing Behavior of Cattle and Sheep
The aim of this study was to investigate the behavior of cattle and sheep grazing and expression of behavioral differences between cattle and sheep is because, to thereby allow grazing management strategies amid animal feed. Grazing circumstances, the daily consumption and duration is grazing, it can result from consumption of feed bite mass (mass and carved teeth) and tooth cutting (bite rate)...
متن کاملComparisons of Cattle Grazing and Sheep Grazing
Controversy has surrounded the possible differences in pasture production which result from grazing by cattle or sheep. Experiments conducted over the 1972-76 period show that pasture production under grazing by sheep is greater than under grazing by cattle under similar intensive managements. A change from sheep grazing to cattle grazing can cause a rapid deterioration in pasture production, w...
